A medical uniform may seem simple, but how many processes does it go through from fabric to finished garment? At Qingdao Crossing Textiles and Garment Co., Ltd., every product that leaves our facility undergoes a complete workflow including fabric inspection, cutting, sewing, and finished product inspection. This article takes you inside our production workshop to understand the journey of a medical uniform.
Step 1: Fabric Incoming Inspection
Before any fabric enters our warehouse, it must first pass a strict incoming inspection. Our quality control personnel test the following parameters through sampling:
Weight & Width: Ensure fabric weight and width meet procurement specifications
Colorfastness: Test for fading under friction, washing, and perspiration conditions
Shrinkage Rate: Pre-wash testing to ensure dimensional stability after washing
Fabric Defects: Check for broken warps/wefts, stains, weaving flaws
Only fabrics that pass inspection are entered into our inventory system for production. Our partner fabric suppliers are all OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, ensuring all fabrics meet international standards for ecological textiles.

Step 2: Pre-Shrinking Treatment
To ensure dimensional stability during customer use, we perform pre-shrinking treatment on fabrics before cutting. This process uses professional pre-shrinking equipment to apply steam and tension control, releasing internal stress in the fabric. This results in more precise cutting and sewing dimensions. This is one of the key reasons our products withstand 85°C high-temperature washing while maintaining dimensional stability after 50 cycles.
Step 3: Cutting
After pre-shrinking, fabrics enter the cutting workshop. We use automatic spreading machines and electric cutters for multi-layer cutting, ensuring even tension and consistent dimensions across all layers. During cutting, operators inspect for hidden fabric defects and maximize fabric utilization according to the marker plan to reduce waste.
For custom orders, we create separate cutting markers based on customer size charts and special body type requirements (such as petite sizes, plus sizes, maternity fits), ensuring proper fit for every garment.

Step 4: Sewing
Sewing is the core process in our production workflow. Our workshop is equipped with various professional Japanese sewing machines, including lockstitch, overlock, interlock, buttonhole, and button-attaching machines – capable of meeting the technical requirements of different medical uniform styles.
During sewing, we strictly adhere to the following standards:
Stitch Density: No less than 10 stitches per inch, ensuring seam strength
Seam Type Selection: Choose lockstitch, overlock, or interlock based on location, balancing strength and appearance
Reinforcement: Bar-tacking at stress points such as pocket corners, crotch seams, and armholes
Thread Tension: Regular equipment calibration to ensure smooth, even stitches
Semi-finished products from each batch are inspected by quality control personnel during production to identify and correct issues promptly.
Step 5: Semi-Finished Product Inspection
After sewing, products move to semi-finished inspection. Quality inspectors check each piece for:
Smooth stitching, no skipped stitches, no broken threads
Symmetrical pocket placement, secure pocket openings
Smooth collar, cuffs, and hem – no twisting
Smooth zipper or snap button operation, accurate placement
Defective products are marked and returned to sewing for rework, ensuring only qualified pieces proceed to the next stage.
Step 6: Ironing / Finishing
After passing semi-finished inspection, products enter the ironing workshop. We use professional steam ironing equipment to shape and finish each medical uniform. Ironing not only creates a smooth appearance and crisp lines but also helps stabilize dimensions and eliminate wrinkles generated during sewing.
For different fabrics (100% polyester, 100% cotton, polyester/cotton blends, etc.), we adjust ironing temperature and duration to avoid damaging the fabric.

Step 7: Finished Product Inspection
After ironing, products undergo final finished product inspection – the last quality checkpoint before shipment. Quality inspectors use AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) standards for sampling or 100% inspection, focusing on:
Dimensional Accuracy: Measure chest, waist, length, sleeve length, inseam, and other key dimensions against size chart
Appearance Integrity: Check for loose threads, stains, color variation, ironing damage
Functional Testing: Zipper operation, snap button closure, pocket load-bearing
Pairing Check: For sets – color consistency between top and bottom, matching sizes
Only products that pass finished inspection receive a quality approval label and proceed to packaging.

Step 8: Packaging & Shipment
We offer multiple packaging options based on customer requirements:
Individual Packaging: Each medical uniform folded separately into clear plastic bags or sterile bags
Bulk Packaging: Sorted by size and color, bundled in 10 or 20 pieces, packed into cartons
Custom Packaging: According to customer-specified packaging methods and labeling requirements
After packaging, products move to the finished goods warehouse for shipment. We arrange appropriate transportation based on customer delivery deadlines and logistics requirements, ensuring safe and on-time delivery.
Production Adaptations for Custom Orders
For custom orders, we add the following adaptations to our standard process:
Fabric Customization: Source or develop fabrics based on customer-specified composition, weight, color
Size Customization: Create patterns and cutting markers based on customer size charts or sample garments
Functional Customization: Add waterproof, anti-odor, antimicrobial, or other finishes based on customer requirements
Logo Customization: Add embroidery or woven label processes during sewing
Every custom product undergoes the complete process validation during the sampling stage, ensuring consistent quality during bulk production.
Conclusion
Behind every medical uniform lies the precise coordination of dozens of processes and the rigorous oversight of multiple quality checkpoints. From fabric inspection to finished product shipment, we consistently uphold our philosophy of "survival by quality," ensuring that every product leaving our facility meets the highest standards and gives our customers complete peace of mind.
